What Program is Right for You?

Training your own service dog is a journey. Atlas offers different options to help you, based on where you are in your unique journey.

If you have just gotten a puppy or have an adolescent dog, consider looking into Teams Set in Motion, one of our Specialty Training Courses, or working with an Atlas Certified Trainer. If your dog is at least 14 months old, and you and your dog are ready for advanced service dog training, look into our Client Certification Program.

We do not provide trained service dogs and we do not help with dog/puppy selection. Please see our Resource page to find organizations that do provide trained service dogs, and information on dog selection.

Client Certification Program

Get hands-on support in the training of your service dog. This program is for handlers of dogs who are at least 14 months old and have a foundation in obedience skills. We work with you for nine months to train public access, disability mitigating tasks, and to help you build your confidence as a service dog handler. When you complete the program, you and your dog will be Atlas Certified and ADI certified through our accreditation with Assistance Dogs International.

Teams Set in Motion

Develop your training skills, build confidence in your dog, and learn how to work with your dog on a wide range of important every day skills, all from the comfort of your own home. This is an online course for owners of puppies and adult dogs alike. This is NOT a service dog course, but a great way to get started if you plan to train your dog as a service dog. Pet dogs will also greatly benefit from the course.

Atlas Certified Trainers

Hire a private trainer who has gone through rigorous training to work with disabled individuals and service dogs. Atlas Certified Trainers do not work for Atlas, and training with them will not lead to Atlas or ADI certification. They are independent trainers who set their own rates, run their own businesses, and have their own specialties. You may want to hire an Atlas trainer to help you work on anything from selecting an appropriate service dog candidate, foundation skills with your new puppy, to more advanced service dog training.
