You've Made a Difference
As another year comes to a close, we reflect on all the accomplishments made possible thanks to incredible supporters like you. 2023 brought with it new Atlas trainers, volunteers, and clients, who all have been working hard every day to train the service dog that provides them with increased confidence, independence, and improved health.
Year after year, you make it possible for disabled people to access the necessary resources that enable them to train and thrive with their service dog at their side. Thank you!
Meet Some Special Dogs
Pictured below are four special dogs who make a difference in their handler’s lives every day.
“When you are living with a chronic condition, you can never truly relax. Atlas has worked very closely with Gizmo, offering new ways to teach him to detect that low blood sugar scent. With their help, patients and guidance, he has become my side kick. Gizmo has freed me. He’s enabled me to be who I am. He is my little wingman.” – Gizmo’s person
Harvey is a hearing alert dog who lets his person know when someone is calling her name, coming up behind her, or knocking at the door. Thanks to Harvey, his person can navigate her everyday with a sense of security.
Charlie is a migraine alert dog who works for his handler with a traumatic brain injury. Charlie can detect that his person is going to have a migraine before its onset. His alert gives his person the opportunity to take medication to prevent the migraine from occurring, allowing her to live a life with significantly less pain and more freedom.
“In 2016, I was on a quest to find a medical service dog to help me manage the symptoms and effects that having a traumatic brain injury has on one’s life. I am now a shining example of just how beneficial having an assistance dog having can be. I wouldn’t and I couldn’t do what I am doing now without my Charlie.” – Charlie’s person
Bailey does mobility tasks for her handler. Equipped with a special harness, she ensures her person can walk with stability. Bailey’s support means that her handler can do what she loves most: going on long walks, without losing her balance or falling due to her gait disorder.
While all of these dogs’ skills are incredible, we cannot forget the hard work and dedication put in by their handlers and our Atlas Team Facilitators who support them on their training journey. Training your own service dog is no easy feat. Each and everyone of these dogs have handlers who put in countless hours to train their dog to be well-mannered in public and to learn the tasks that help them navigate their daily lives safely and independently. Each and every one of these people had access to Atlas’ support thanks to donors like you.
Make a Pawsitive Impact
As the year ends, will you help more disabled people who could benefit from dogs like Gizmo, Harvey, Bailey, and Charlie?
Many people want and would benefit from training their own service dog but do not have access to the resources that can help them achieve their goals. With your help, we can provide the skilled support to help more people succeed and thrive with their service dog everyday.
Our work is made possible thanks to the kindness of donors like you. Thank you for your generosity.
