Atlas' January 2023 Updates

Woof, it's a new year!

2023 is starting off strong. The generosity you showed us in 2022 will further our mission and goals in this year to come. Keep reading to find out what we are already up to, get updates on our puppy (not so puppy anymore) in-training, and how you can get involved with us!

Thank You!

We could not be more grateful. Thanks to our incredible supporters, we raised over $12,000 in our Year End campaign. Your generosity means the world to us and will allow us to provide even more support for people with disabilities training their service dog. Atlas could not provide the services that we do without your help. We cannot thank you enough!

Clicker Expo

We are excited to be participating at the upcoming virtual Clicker Expo conference, January 27th-29th. We have had the honor of attending and presenting at this amazing conference (both in person and virtually) since 2018 and can’t wait for another. If you are attending this upcoming Clicker Expo, don’t forget to stop by our booth and join us for our talks. We will be presenting about the important topic of accessibility in dog training, and providing information as to how dog trainers can begin their journey working with service dogs and their handlers.

A group of people and four dogs pose in front of a branded backdrop featuring logos from Kong, ClickerExpo, and Atlas Assistance Dogs. The group appears happy and some members hold leashes of seated dogs.

We truly CANNOT wait to attend the March conference, which will be in Washington DC. This will be Clicker Expo’s first in-person conference since the pandemic.

Monthly Cal Update

Cal, a sweet chocolate lab that we have been raising for Amy, a Washington veteran, is now 10 months old! He continues to make great progress as he trains to become her service dog. He is working on building his confidence and strengthening his life skills. With his puppy raiser, he practices sitting in public places and watching people go by. This is no easy task for an adolescent dog. He also recently practiced riding the Seattle light rail alongside another Atlas team in training, pictured below. They both did wonderfully!

Two women stand indoors with two chocolate Labrador retrievers wearing service vests. The woman on the left has curly red hair and is wearing a blue jacket. The woman on the right has long gray hair and is wearing a pink and blue outfit.

Join Our Spring Team Facilitator Cohort!

We are excited to announce that we have opened up applications for our next Team Facilitator cohort. Team Facilitators are core to Atlas. They are our volunteers who work hands-on with our clients to help and guide them through the training of their service dog. Facilitators receive significant free training and mentorship. Without Team Facilitators, there would be no Atlas. Become a Team Facilitator and help disabled people thrive with a service dog at their side!

Welcome Timothy

We are pleased to introduce our newest Board member, Timothy O’Neil-Dunne. His involvement with service animals came from his mother who was a long-time supporter of assistance animals in England. His passion has been heightened by interacting with low vision and hard of hearing individuals and seeing how service dogs can improve their lives. He hopes to bring his skills as an entrepreneur to the Board to help Atlas’ services and geographic reach. Learn more about Timothy, his background, and what he brings to Atlas here>>
