Tic Con 2024

For the very first time, we had the immense pleasure to attend and present at Tic Con, a conference hosted by the Tourette Association of America (TAA). We presented on how service dogs could benefit individuals livings with Tourette Syndrome and other Tic Disorders and also had an info table throughout the event. The talk was so popular, we even ran out of standing room. This was an incredible opportunity for us to reach a community that does not traditionally use or have access to service dogs, and give them options on how to obtain one.

A woman speaks at a conference, presenting a slide titled What is a Service Dog? Two other women sit nearby, one holding a white service dog. The room has carpeted floors and a beige wall with a screen.
Two women sit on chairs, speaking into microphones at an event. One wears glasses and a green skirt, the other a gray blazer. A service dog in a blue vest sits beside them. The room has patterned carpet and a decorative wall.

Four smiling women are posing with three seated dogs wearing service vests in front of a display table. The table has brochures and a banner featuring a dog logo. The setting appears to be indoors with plants and a brick wall in the background.

While some families and individuals had already been wondering about this path for themselves, others did not know a service dog was even an option and were very excited to hear about this opportunity. We were also touched by the number of health care providers in attendance who were open and curious to hearing about how a service dog could benefit their patients.

We are excited about continued opportunities to collaborate with the TAA and will keep you informed about our upcoming virtual talk for them in August.

Congratulations Our Newly Certified Team

A big round of applause to team Katrina and Dalton on successfully passing their Public Access Test and becoming an Atlas Certified Team! As the owner of Bold Lead Designs and a former Atlas board member, Katrina is intimately familiar with the service dog world and has helped countless of service dog handlers. We were so happy to have been able to now support her on her own training journey with sweet Dalton.

“Dalton has helped me to be more active and to confidently get out and do more of the things I enjoy. As a mobility dog, he assists with balance and stability to help me manage neurological and connective tissue health issues that cause pain and fatigue. Dalton alerts me to migraine and other medical issues which helps me better manage my energy level, disequilibrium, chronic pain and fatigue flare ups, and moments of anxiety or disorientation. Dalton helps me be calmer and more focused, encourages me to slow down and be more engaged with life. I’m looking forward to many adventures with my partner.
Because I work not just in the dog world but within the service dog community, it’s critical that my handling skills are competent and my dog meets the highest expectations for behavior and training. Atlas offered me the support and confidence I needed to get through that tricky phase of canine adolescence and to train my dog’s disability skills. My team facilitator kept me on schedule and held me accountable so I could succeed as an owner-trainer. When unexpected challenges came up, I received great guidance for solutions that work in the real world. I feel prepared to confidently hold space in rooms with experienced service dog teams, professional dog trainers, and top canine experts. I’m proud of the accomplishments Dalton and I have achieved as a team.” -Katrina
